Hondo

Hondo stopped the bleeding last night when he bagged a double-delight with the Phillies - Game 5 and NLCS - to raise the earnings to 405 huttons.
Tonight, it's shaping up as a brutal week for the Bowdens - 10 units on N.C. State to obliterate the number against the 'Noles.

Take "Under"
Tonight's MWC clash between BYU and TCU is a big one. The Cougars are looking to crash the BCS party, and need to keep winning to get their shot. While they're a program renowned for offense, it's actually the BYU defense that has been the more consistent unit this season. Over their last four games, BYU has two shutouts, led 34-0 vs. Utah State before giving up a couple of meaningless scores and held New Mexico to one field goal. TCU gave up a bunch on the road to Oklahoma. But in their other six games, the Horned Frogs have surrendered a grand total of 45 points. I expect the two stop units to be at their respective best in this important game, and I look for the Under to come home a winner.

(56) PIT Penguins
Take "Over"
A couple of strong offensive teams here. The Pittsburgh Penguins don't expect to go much longer with minimal output from stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. For now, they're getting by with goals from players whose scoring for a season sometimes doesn't match a week of Crosby's. Pascal Dupuis scored on a slap shot from along the edge of the left circle with 10.8 seconds left in overtime and the Penguins in a 3-2 win over the Flyers. Washington is averaging almost 5 goals per game and is allowing just over 3 goals per game. With so much offensive firepower, this one sails over. Play the Capitals/Flyers over the total.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16
*Florida State 24 - NORTH CAROLINA STATE 19—Seminoles have won & covered two straight, as FSU offense (540 YR in last 2 games!) starting to pound the rock. Special game for well-liked ‘Nole assistant coach & deposed former N.C. State mentor Amato. Still, inclined to take points with host & resourceful RS frosh QB R. Wilson (3 TDP, 2 TDR, no ints. in his last 2 games).Insiders say injured LB Irving & DT Cash likely back in action for speedy
Wolfpack defense. CABLE TV—ESPN
(07-FLA. ST. 27-N. Car. St. 10...19-19 F.35/124 N.34/96 F.16/28/0/257 N.19/32/3/172 F.0 N.1)
(07-FSU -18 27-10 06-NCS +10 24-20 05-Ncs +12' 20-15...SR: Florida State 19-9)

*TCU 26 - Byu 20—The difference in the “BCS Buster” candidacies of these two is the fact TCU has had to face (and lose to) Oklahoma, and BYU hasn’t had a similar test. But d.c. Dick Bumpas’ hot-pursuing, top-ranked Frog defense might prove an effective weapon vs. QB Max Hall and high-powered Cougar attack. Not convinced BYU “D” as good as its numbers suggest after steady diet of impotent opposition. TCU loses little with backup QB Jackson (who has led back-to-back wins) in lineup, and Frogs very tough to beat in Fort Worth (18- 2 SU, 14-4 vs. line as host since ‘05)!

Game: Philadelphia Flyers at Colorado Avalanche Oct 16 2008 9:05PM
Prediction: over

Reason: Both teams have played the over in 2 of their 3 games thus far thanks to their poor defensive play. The Avalanche have allowed 4.5 goals/game in their 3 games so far this season. On the other side the Flyers have allowed 4 goals/game in that same span. The over is a profitable 7-1-1 in Colorado's last 9 home games. Both team's have some decent goal scoreres and they both will capitalize tonight. Look for plenty of goals tonight. Play the Over.

THE SPORTS REPORTER

FLORIDA STATE over *NORTH CAROLINA STATE by 9
With Xavier Bad Boy Lee at quarterback last season, FSU gained 381 offensive yards while
the defense shut ’em out for the final three quarters of a 27-10 win. But NC State was –4 in
TO Ratio for that game, playing with one of its infamously bad QBs and without its two best
running backs. Now, with QB Russell Wilson having two decent games under his belt vs. East
Carolina and Boston College and 228-pound #1 RB Andre Brown fresh and ready to pound
the piggie, you can leave that ‘Beware of Home Dog’ sign hanging in Raleigh. However, with
so many injuries, they are a wounded home dog. FLORIDA STATE, 23-14.

*TCU over BYU by 2
Horned Frogs are arguably the biggest roadblock on BYU’s path to Unbeaten City and the
home team has this one circled. The Cougs got a taste of physical last week in New Mexico
and will get more of it with a short week turnaround. TCU mans the nation’s top defense and
will try and turn this into a time of possession contest. Starting QB Dalton is nicked up and
may not play, but the game will come down to BYU’s ability – or lack thereof - to score TDs
with the passing game. TCU, 22-20.

POINTWISE

Florida State 34 - NORTH CAROLINA STATE 20 - (7:45 - ESPN) -- Both teams
had last week off. Ponder has FlaSt moving it (144 RYs, 139 PYs last gm),
with only loss facilitated by 7 TOs. Just 26 & 35 RYs for Wolfpack in last 2 tilts,
along with mere 13 & 15 FDs. NCSt allowing 32 ppg last 9 tilts. Buck history.

TCU 34 - Byu 30 - (8:00) -- Sixteen straight wins for Coogs, with Hall at 20/4
(TDs to INTs). Have owned airways in this series (Wise Points), but a bit of a
struggle overland of late, so won't run on Frogs' #1 rated rushing "D". Tcu had
a 398 RY edge in last HG, & host is +78 pts ATS in Cougar contests. Classic.
